Bupa Marathon 2011

We are proud to announce that one of the members of Smart Use team has participated in Bupa Great South Run that took place in Portsmouth on 30th October this year.

Our hero's name is Reece Major and he's got something to say: "Thank you to everyone that sponsored me for the Bupa Great South Run 2011. I managed to raise £450 for the Alzheimer’s society which I am very pleased with. However I am still hoping to get to the £500 mark, with a few late donations. I really enjoyed the experience and I am very proud to of finished and achieved such a feat. I put a lot of effort into training for the run, because I wanted to post a competitive time. And was really hoping to achieve something close to my personal best in training which was 1 hour 17 mins. Therefore I was gutted when I a recurring ankle injury flared up on a training run two weeks before. This not only put my run in doubt but stopped me training for the last two weeks. However being determined not to let anybody down, especially my charity, I started the race unsure whether my ankle would last the distance. Unfortunately running through the dockyard on the uneven cobbles I just aggravated the injury enough for it to cause me a vast amount of pain for the last 8 miles. The rest of the run was now even more difficult because I was running through the pain barrier. I finished the run in a time of 1 hour 24 mins. At the time I was very disappointed with as it was a lot slower than I know I could achieve. However upon reflection, I feel great satisfaction that I had finished the race for my charity, considering the pain I was experiencing. It really does make it all worthwhile knowing that I raised a good amount for charity. My pain was only temporary, Alzehiemer’s is a slow and nasty disease and it makes me feel good that my suffering might prevent other from suffering something much worse."

Well done, Reece! We are very proud of you!!!
